Bear is back…
Please let me know if this video goes down…
I have to also say that for all the “It’s not real” blow hards out there – It’s TV! Of course it’s not going to be 100% all real. I used to work filming and editing video and part of the magic is that you cut the film in a certain way to make it more interesting. Often something from later in the filming may get interlaced earlier into the final movie because it makes more sense there. Also – many times things called pick-ups are filmed later to add filler content to help carry a shows momentum. In the case of Man Vs. Wild – they probably get further along in the filming and decide that they want to teach a certain technique or include a certain situation – so they will film it later and then cut it into the show wherever it fits.
And really -How real do you want Man Vs. Wild to be? Do you want to watch Bear toss and turn through 8 hours of a freezing sleepless night?
As all the accusations are flying over the show being “fake,” it seems like people are forgetting that it is still good and entertaining. Furthermore – Gryll’s stated that in the future they are going to work in the crew more and be a lot more transparent about the way the show is made.
“Re: the recent press accusations of motels and stagings in the show that have been doing the rounds, all I can say is they don’t always tell the full story, but that’s life and part of being in the public eye I guess.
The upshot is we’re determined to make all new shows more inclusive of the crew and their role. Discovery and Channel 4 will also include a disclaimer at the start of the show so there’s no confusion.”
You can read the whole deal here.
Of course they wouldn’t tell the full story…it’s the media for crying out loud.
I, for one, will continue to enjoy the show and am, frankly, glad that they are going to talk a bit more openly about the crew. Personally – I find Man vs. Wild to be highly entertaining and Bear Grylls to be a cool and funny host. What more could you want from a show?

tv is what it is. i absolutely enjoy all of the shows. i don’t care if parts of it are edited or reshot or if bear doesn’t stay the whole night every night. i haven’t heard what all the accusations are, i just know my friday nights are not the same without man vs. wild. it was a family thing to watch the show and we miss it. i never recall bear claiming to do anything but show you how to survive if ever in those situations and usually with a lot less than the average stranded person. he risks his life to do a lot of the things he does do so who cares if he takes a break when the camera stops rolling. bear has way more personality than survivor man. i don’t mean to be rude but i have my favorite and i want him back!!!!!!!!!! love from a pissed off fan.

Hey folks… You can all complain about what he is doing, but it is not about him surviving through his shows, its about you learning what you may beable to do in a bad situation. All of you who complain wouldnt be in these situations because you are sitting on your a$$ watching tv. Complain when you have that much fum making a living.. Cheers Bear keep it up

Bear is a good presenter for the show. And that’s what it is mostly is a show, I agree. However dot dot dot, there are some things he does per survival ina bad situation which are not recommendable ie getting out of a cold body of water with elevated heartrate and doing push-ups. This will further elevate your heart rate and increase likelihood of caridac arrest. You should do an isostatic pose like holding the push up with arms outstretched and focusing on your core abdomen muscles. His way could actually be harmful.
I think it’s great for him that he is havving so much fun making a good living etc, but there is a compoonent of responsibility here that needs to be addressed. This is about survival, not just Bear’s & the Discovery channel & sponsors financial thrival.
But I like the show, it’s fun enough for me. But Im smarter that everybody else, so……;)

IMO, who cares if Bear stays inside overnight? I’m sure he *could* camp it. I don’t think anyone could deny that Bear is badass anyway you slice it. The climbing he does on the show is insane, I love it. And he’s hot!

I wonder how long his immune system will hold up if he’s taking antibiotics regularly to protect against the critters he’s probably ingested… and don’t the snakes and frogs he eats have bones of a sort. maybe they are only smallish but they could be a problem down the line if you know what I mean …
Animals. He could just say and show and not actually eat or bang their heads against a wall. I mean, there was little pepe la pu just loving his lonesome little life in the Baha desert – no danger of becoming roadkill even – and along comes guess who – for a tv show. rotten i say

I should say I really liked Mission to Everest, it was great. But i think Man v Wild needs better preparation and has become redundant. It’s a wonderful opportunity to educate people about nature and Bear does some of that. It’s just those shock value dollars that are tiresome.
